FAQs

I think I have ADHD, why should I see a psychiatrist?

At Access ADHD, we understand the importance of expert guidance and support. While we can provide ADHD coaching, we cannot provide diagnoses or therapy.

Consulting a psychiatrist is crucial for accurate assessments. With their specialised knowledge, psychiatrists can offer comprehensive evaluations and create targeted treatment plans tailored to your unique needs.

Do I need a doctor referral for ADHD coaching?

If you suspect you have ADHD, a doctor referral to a psychiatrist is recommended for accurate diagnosis and medication.

However, if you suspect you have ADHD traits and need guidance to tap into what strategies can work for you, then working with a trained ADHD coach can help. You do not need a doctor referral for this.

Should I see a counsellor or a coach?

Counselling is essential when individuals are dealing with conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health disorders. Individuals facing difficult life transitions, grief and loss, relationship problems, or other emotional challenges can benefit from counseling.

Coaching is a collaborative and goal-oriented process that focuses on personal and professional development.

At Access ADHD, our trained ADHD coaches work with individuals to identify their aspirations, set goals, and create action plans to achieve success. They provide guidance, motivation, and practical tools to boost confidence and clarity.

ADHD coaching focuses on empowering individuals with ADHD to tap into their strengths, overcome obstacles, and unlock their full potential. It fosters self-discovery, self-confidence, and personal transformation.

I have ADHD medication, why do I need an ADHD coach too?

Medication can be a helpful tool for managing ADHD symptoms, but ADHD coaching offers additional benefits. While medication can address certain aspects of ADHD, coaching focuses on developing skills, strategies, and mindset changes to help you thrive in various areas of life.

An ADHD coach can support you in setting and achieving goals, improving time management, organisation, communication skills, and addressing specific challenges related to ADHD.

ADHD coaching can provide personalised guidance, accountability, and ongoing support that medication alone may not offer.

How is this different from therapy?

Coaching and therapy have different focuses and approaches. Therapy typically focuses on addressing and healing emotional and psychological issues, while coaching is more goal-oriented and future-focused.

While therapy often explores the past and aims to resolve past traumas or unresolved issues, coaching is more action-oriented and focuses on personal or professional development, skill-building, and achieving specific goals.

Access ADHD does not offer therapy, but can work collaboratively with therapists and provide support in managing ADHD-related challenges, developing strategies, and achieving personal growth.

I’ve tried coaching before, and it didn’t work for me. How will it be different this time?

ADHD coaching experiences can vary depending on the coach-client relationship, coaching approach, and individual circumstances. We can discuss how our coaching style, expertise, and tailored strategies may be different from previous experiences.

Pursuing an accredited course to gain certification with the ICF (International Coaching Federation) also means our ADHD coaches have gone through rigorous training, assignments, mentor coaching, and assessments. We know the importance of open communication and collaboration to ensure that the ADHD coaching process aligns with your needs and goals.

I don’t have time for ADHD coaching

Managing time can be a challenge, especially with ADHD. However, ADHD coaching can help you develop strategies to better manage your time and prioritise your activities.

Working with an ADHD coach can help you become more efficient and make better use of your time. Additionally, ADHD coaching sessions can be scheduled at a time that is convenient for you, and sessions can be tailored to suit your specific needs and availability.

By investing time in ADHD coaching, you may find that you gain more control and effectiveness in managing your overall schedule.

What can you guarantee I’ll get from ADHD coaching?

Undertaking ADHD coaching is a collaborative process, and the outcomes depend on your commitment and active participation.

While we can’t guarantee specific results, we can assure you that a coach will provide personalised support, guidance, and tools to help you navigate the challenges of ADHD and work towards your goals.

Together, we will explore strategies, develop action plans, and address any obstacles that arise. ADHD coaching sessions are designed empower you, build self-awareness, enhance your skills, and increase your chances of achieving the outcomes you desire.

I’m not sure if I’m ready for coaching. How do I know if it’s the right time?

It’s common to feel unsure about ADHD coaching. ADHD coaching is most effective when clients are open to change, willing to invest time and effort, and committed to their personal growth.

Be assured that ADHD coaching can be tailored to your readiness level, and we can discuss your concerns, expectations, and desired outcomes to determine if ADHD coaching is a good fit for you now.

I’ve been managing my ADHD on my own for a long time. Why should I book ADHD coaching?

An ADHD strategy programme can provide additional support, structure, and guidance that may enhance your current self-management strategies. You could gain new perspectives, develop targeted skills, and refine your existing approaches.

Through ADHD coaching during the ADHD strategy programme, you will obtain the potential benefits of working with a professional who specialises in ADHD and can provide personalised strategies and ongoing support.

I can’t afford ADHD coaching

Affordability is a valid concern and at Access ADHD we can offer different options to make ADHD coaching more accessible. Contact us via the contact form above for more information.
